The man behind the smoke

Just Call Me Uncle D

Every good BBQ story starts the same way: a backyard, a pit, and somebody who refuses to rush.

Our story

From the Backyard to the Whole Midlands

Before there was a truck, there was a pit in the yard and a line of family and friends who knew what day Uncle D was cooking. Whole hogs, racks of ribs, smoked chicken, turkey wings — cooked slow over real wood, seasoned by hand, and served with sides straight out of the soul food tradition.

Word spread the way good BBQ always does: one plate at a time. Neighbors told coworkers. Coworkers told their churches. Eventually the backyard couldn't hold everybody, so the pit went on wheels — and D'Best BBQ started rolling across South Carolina.

The truck may be newer, but nothing about the cooking changed. If it's on your plate, it earned its place there over hours of smoke.

The House Rules

Low & Slow, Always

Real wood, real smoke, real time. We don't own a shortcut and we're not shopping for one. The pit sets the schedule.

Soul Food Roots

Green beans, baked beans, slaw, and macaroni salad made the way they're supposed to taste — like somebody's grandmother is checking the pot.

Family First

Every customer gets treated like they pulled a chair up to our table. That's why folks don't say "the BBQ truck" — they just say, “call Uncle D”.
